Welcome to the Germantown Campus Learning Centers MAPEL Center Science Learning Center Writing, Reading, and Language Center and the Academic Success Center at Takoma Park Campus Virtual Tutoring Will Begin on Monday, March 23, 2020! The Learning Centers are committed to student success, self-efficacy, and engagement with the college community. If this is your first time using WCONLINE, please click on "Register for an account" on the left side. After you register, you can begin signing up for tutoring sessions according to availability. FOR ALL APPOINTMENTS Available appointments appear as white boxes on the schedule. After scheduling an appointment, check your email for confirmation. Be on time. Please allow time for technical difficulties and contact the appropriate center immediately if they happen. WHAT KIND OF VIRTUAL TUTORING IS AVAILABLE? The WRL Center offers eTutoring and online tutoring: What is eTutoring? eTutoring is asynchronous (you do not speak directly to the tutor). For eTutoring, students upload their paper to their appointment before the appointment starts. Once the appointment starts, the tutor will review the paper and provide written feedback. At the end of the appointment, the tutor will upload the paper with feedback to the appointment report, which will be automatically sent to the student. What is online tutoring? Online tutoring is synchronous (you speak directly to the tutor). Online tutoring can use a chatbox or voice chat. Depending on the tutor, video chat may be usable. Students must be able to copy and paste their document into the tutoring interface. The MAPEL Center and Science Learning Center offer virtual tutoring via Zoom. Students will be sent a link to the Zoom room in their email confirmation after making an appointment. The Academic Success Center offers virtual tutoring via Zoom. Language tutoring (coordinated by the Germantown WRL Center) is virtual tutoring via Blackboard Collaborate. WHAT SORT OF DEVICES CAN I USE FOR TUTORING? eTutoring works with any device that can access WCOnline, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones. Online tutoring works best on laptops and desktops. MAPEL Center, Science Learning Center, and Academic Success Center virtual tutoring and WRL Center Saturday workshops work with any device that can use Zoom, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones. Language tutoring works best with laptops and desktops. You will be prompted to download Blackboard Collaborate your first time.
